Amitabh Bachchan Races Through Poster of First Fiction Show Yudh

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan launched the dramatic poster of his first fiction TV series titled Yudh, which is expected to go on air from July, here on Wednesday.

Big B, who will be seen playing the role of construction company co-owner Yudhishthir Sikarwar in the TV series, unveiled the poster in the presence of his co-stars Sarika and Aahana Kumra, the show's creative director Anurag Kashyap, and creative consultant Shoojit Sircar, among others.

The poster of the series, directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, presents an intense-looking Amitabh Bachchan running away in a blue suit against the backdrop of skyrising buildings amidst dust.

"I play a construction company owner. There is business rivalry and family issues along with health issues which might be terminal how he balances is what you will get to see," Mr Bachchan told reporters here at the poster launch.

Co-produced by Big B's production company Saraswati Creations with Endemol India, the show is being promoted as a "first of its own kind" TV series.

"TV needs change and we always complain about it. I feel it (Yudh) is cinema as a TV series," said Shoojit Sircar.

Anurag Kashyap agreed, "It's like cinema on screen. This is Mr Bachchan at his best. We followed rules of cinema for the show. The approach from script to sound design to editing, it's same as it's done in films."

The series will be aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

Happy to make a mark in Bollywood: Sunny Leone

Mumbai: Indo-Canadian adult film star Sunny Leone is happy for getting noticed but is not sure if she has made her mark in Bollywood.

Before making her Bollywood debut in 'Jism 2', Sunny had participated in the fifth season of the reality show 'Bigg Boss'.

Sunny also did a special song in 'Shootout at Wadala' and was seen next in 'Jackpot' and 'Ragini MMS 2'.

"I think I have been noticed and I am happy about it. I am happy where I have reached today. I don't know if I have made a mark for myself here. I want to do good work, have fun and entertain people," Sunny told PTI in an exclusive interview here.

"I have done only three films. I still have to work hard. I want more and more people to watch and enjoy my films. It is a steady process. I think one should work hard and prove oneself in dancing, acting and bringing in ticket sales (box office)," she said.

Sunny is happy with the audience response to 'Ragini MMS 2'.

"I wasn't expecting the film to do this well. I thank my fans for watching the film. I wonder how can one film change things," she added.

Post the success of 'Ragini MMS 2', Sunny has been getting a lot of offers but she is in no hurry to do any film.

"Offers are coming in. I think people have realised I am not here just for five minutes (on screen), I love this world. I will continue to work hard and do amazing work. I am sure acceptance will come," Sunny said.

Responding to a query that she was looking for an image-makeover, Sunny said that she did not set any rules for herself.

"That is not true, I don't know where this came from. I don't set any rules, limits for myself," the actress said.

The song titled, Aint nobody ****in with my music, released on the video-sharing website on January 16 and extensively publicised by him in social media websites, contains obscene and immoral lyrics and degrades women in particular, stated S. Anirudh, who achieved celebrity status and fame at a young age, had chosen to abuse the same and corrupt youth by exposing them to perverse lyrics and provoking them, the complaint read.

The lawyer also alleged that the music video had been released without obtaining censor certification under the Indian Cinematograph Act. All releases, including teasers and trailers are subject to censor certification, the advocate said. The video has now been taken down from websites by the uploaders.

Ajith, Vijay, Mahesh Babu set for BO battle

After almost seven years Vijay and Ajith are all set to battle it out at the box-office on Jan 10. Their films ‘Jilla’ and ‘Veeram’, both of which have garnered quite a lot of expectations, are slated to release ahead of the Pongal festival.

Distributors believe the festive season is an appropriate time to release big budget films with big stars as Tamil Nadu enjoys an extended holiday of 10 days. Although makers are hoping to rake in the moolah, trade pundits think otherwise. With simultaneous releases, a major problem that arises is availability of theatres. Adding to their woes is Mahesh Babu’s film ‘1 Nenokkadine’, which will also see a world-wide release on Jan 10.

Sources say ‘1 Nenokkadine’ has already blocked multiplex screens in the UK, US and Singapore where Tamil movies usually enjoy a good run.

With three films fighting head-on, ‘1 Nenokkadine’ seems to be a few steps ahead of the two Tamil films with aggressive promotions and theatre blocking.

However fans of Thala and Thalapathy seem to be unfazed and are ready to celebrate their matinee idols’ releases.

Surprisingly, the fans of the two stars, who are usually at loggerheads with each other, seem to have joined hands this time. According to TOI, Ajith fan clubs across the city are planning a special mention about Vijay's ‘Jilla’ in their banners, while Ilayathalapathy's fan club members are likely to wish ‘Veeram’ in their promotional banners.

The duo’s films have previously clashed at the box office and here’s what happened:

Bhagavathi and Villain:

Bhagavathi and Villain released on November 4, 2002. Both the films turned out to be blockbusters, giving Vijay and Ajith’s then floundering career a big boost.

Thirumalai and Anjaneya:

Both these films released on Oct 24, 2003. Though Thirumalai did well and transformed Vijay into a mass hero, Ajith’s Anjaneya only did average business.

Aadhi and Paramasivam:

Aadhi and Paramasivam which had similar plots, released on Jan 14, 2006, while Vijay’s Aadhi turned out to be a dud, Ajith’s Paramasivam fared averagely.

Pokkiri and Alwar:

Pokiri and Alwar both released on Jan 12, 2007. Pokkiri which was Prabhu Deva’s directorial debut in Tamil became a blockbuster hit, while Ajith’s Alwar tanked without a trace.

The question now is who will win the epic clash this time? Ajith, who is on a winning streak or Vijay, who needs a hit to get his career back on track, or will Mahesh walk home with the honours?

"I am not interested in getting married or having a girlfriend. I am loving my single status. In 30 years I must have been single...I am loving it. I am absolutely having a blast...you have no idea how I am feeling," Salman said in an interview here.

In the past, Salman was uncomfortable and always dodged queries on his marriage but now he seems to have a way around questions on his single status.

I do not endorse marriage: Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut, who is waiting for the release of her next film, 'Queen', says that for a change she plays a simple girl in the Vikas Bahl film.

“I play a simple girl, Rani, who is not very confident. Though I play a behenji, Vikas did not want me to wear a salwar kameez in the beginning and then turn to wearing mini dresses. Rani is the same from the beginning to the end but a few incidents change her from within,” says Kangana.

“In real life, I am simple but very confident. I broke the rules of society and moved out of my house and travelled alone to Mumbai to make a career. However, in the initial stages I was slightly confused and didn’t know what exactly I was looking for and how to go about it.

“I did make some mistakes, but now everything has been sorted.”

Kangana, who does not want to join the current wave surrounding the Aam Aadmi Party, says that she tries to do whatever she can to bring about change in her own way. “If I get a chance to serve my country and bring about changes, I will surely put in my sincere efforts. But at my own personal level I always make it a point to close running taps and switch off fans and lights that are not being used. Also, I don’t like to unnecessarily waste money on laundry. I use my towel for almost 15 days. Extravagance is not permitted in my household.”

On a personal front she says, “I have been open about my affairs and my personal life because I do not like falsehoods. I do not like to hide things as I feel that truth prevails. I do not know why people like to cover up.”

Coming to marriage, the actor reiterates her earlier views about the institution. “I do not endorse this commitment at the moment. I feel two people can enjoy each other’s companionship without being married. I do not see a reason to get it endorsed by any government document… taking the charge of anybody’s soul and also take on their surname. I have seen people having so many issues after getting married and walking away from the commitment. I feel I can be trustworthy while being in a relationship and it doesn’t need to be legalised. To build up one’s trust we need not tie this nuptial knot.

Maybe I will change my mind later but that’s what I feel now.”

“Also if in a relationship someone cheats on me I won’t tolerate it. I am not promoting live-in relationships though,” she adds.

"I Thank family for support. I am big fan of the show. I did not expect to come so far... till the finale," said Gauhar, who had won critical acclaim for her role in the film 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year' (2009). Aishwarya is a super mom: Abhishek Bachchan

Mumbai, Dec 22: Abhishek Bachchan said his actress wife Aishwarya Rai is a "super mom" and expressed his desire to protect his daughter Aaradhya from the world of showbiz so as to offer her normal childhood.

"Her (Aishwarya's) professionalism and dedication is unquestionable. As a mother (of Aaradhya) she is superb..she is a super mom. As a co-star, I have always loved working with her. It is a pleasure," Abhishek told PTI.

Abhishek said he and Aishwarya wanted their daughter Aaradhya be guarded from the showbiz.

"As her parents, Aishwarya and I want our child to be happy and healthy. I was guarded from all this (media attention and showbiz world). The trade magazine and all was banned in my house. The first time I read a film magazine was when I was 18," the actor said.

Abhishek appealed to media to show restrain in photographing star kids.

"This is one department (of children) where I would want the media to show restrain and responsibility. In our time social media was not there. I appeal to the media to show restrain..Don't do this to them..let children grow up the way they want to. We want to let her (Aaradhya) grow as a normal kid," the actor said.

Praising his wife for her professionalism and dedication to work, Abhishek said, "Aishwarya always knew what is the right film for her and has a knack to pick a right film that suits her. I love her as an actor. I am a big fan of her and she should be given the liberty to choose the films she wants to do".

The buzz is that the real life couple will be seen in adman Prahlad Kakkar's film, probably next year.

"What happens in selection process is (that) you have certain ideas and suggestions and things get worked out, so it is time consuming. It takes time to develop a script to making a film...It doesn't happen overnight," Abhishek said.

Abhishek said Kakkar had met them with a script. "He has a script which he is keen on. We haven't heard it completely yet. If we like it then we will do it," the actor informed.

Meanwhile, we hear that Kushal Tandon and Gauhar Khan don't seem to have taken a leaf out of fellow contestants Armaan Kohli and Tanisha Mukherjee's book - Armaan and Tanisha were warned by host Salman Khan to watch their behaviour, especially with all the cameras around.

"Recently, Kushal and Gauhar were heard discussing intimate details about their personal lives. Keeping with the theme of being a family entertainment show, the conversation was heavily edited," our source said.

Bigg Boss 7: Is Kushal Tandon really coming back to the house?

Kushal Tandon, who was eliminated from Bigg Boss during the last week of October for his alleged violent behaviour against inmate Andy, was reportedly set to re-enter the Bigg Boss 7 house last night.

While all the rumours suggested the comeback, the actor was a no-show.

Kushal, a mass favourite was considered to be the liveliest young member in the house. His elimination has seemingly left the house quite boring and empty, it appears. Kushal’s re-entry to the house is expected to bring back those energies back again.

Still, we suspect a dramatic entry any time now. And how do we know that he’s on his way back to the show? Don’t trust us? No problem, following are telling signs of what is to become of Kushal Tandon’s re-entry into the Bigg Boss 7 house.

Gauhar humming 'Mera Kuchh Samaan Tumhare Pass Pada Hai' on the show, which was hinted at Kushal. Kushal’s recent tweets will make you think "will, Kushal be back in the show"?

Kushal Tandon @KushalT2803 17 Nov: ‘Just fin a channel meeting... vl keep u guys posted if i'm entering the BB house again.’

Kushal Tandon @KushalT2803 17 Nov: ‘Salman Bhai is not opposing my entry... all are rumors...love KT’

Bigg Boss 7’s live feed had Gauhar comment ‘Kushal mere liye shopping karke aaya hai', and in response Sofia says, 'Nice, aisa ladka chahiye' in a muted voice.

Kamya walks in a while later and asks 'Prathyusha mili?' and that was muted too. We can’t help but wonder if he’s just playing hide and seek with us?

Tune in for more updates from the animated Bigg Boss 7 house!

'Ram-Leela' Review: The good, the bard and the beautiful

Cast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Supriya Pathak Kapoor
Direction: Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Rating: Three and a half stars

No apologies tendered: it’s lust at first sight. At a Holi celebration, their eyes meet, clouds of colour powder explode, and she grabs him for a hard kiss on the lips. The passion is on. And the woman is no coy cutie. She demands and receives an equal relationship.

Undoubtedly, co-writer and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a man of thought and vision. Vibgyor hues, frescoed walls, antique drapes and glowling lamps light up every frame of 'Ram-Leela' (retitled 'Goliyon ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela' following imponderable objections). Indeed, here’s an exceptional visual banquet for the eyes, stylistically consistent, owing far more inspiration to Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996) than to Shakespeare’s timeless love story.

Like Luhrmann’s take, Bhansali sets up a tableau of feuding families, updated to contemporary twitter-savvy times. And both the clans are steeped in crime ranging from trafficking in guns and hired killings to booze smuggling. In consonance with the theme, the editing pattern is swift, lurching, swinging from one event to another with the speed of a bullet train, punctuated by sumptuous dance set pieces. Indeed, for the first hour or so of this 155-minuter, you’re clean bowled.

Welcome back, Bhansali’s in stylish form, evidenced in his best works 'Khamoshi: The Musical', 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' and 'Black'. There is a strong hangover, too, of the more accomplished sections of 'Devdas', particularly in the shaded gardens, balconies, palms and fronds, not to forget the reprise of a funeral cortege, the mourners uniformly garbed in white, all very visually striking.

Here comes the rub, though. Alas, the screenplay cannot sustain itself in terms of story content. Excessive repetition, endless showdowns between the clans’ bozos who seem to be migrants from 'Gangs of Wasseypur', a cheesy shake-your-booty dance item by Priyanka Chopra, and more fatally, lengthy meanderings from the romance to detailed sub-plots about the clans’ bloodthirsty agendas, take a toll on the love story.

How you wish the focus had stayed on Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone), instead of blurring them into bipolar lovers-turned-vendetta-seekers, flanked by creepoids who’re too bad to be true. For instance, a guffawing gang continues to watch porn flicks, a corrupt cop goes gaga on being gifted those XXX-DVDs (come on, they’re a rupee a dozen), the fearsome Lady Don (Supriya Pathak Kapoor) even breaks into a tandav a la Kirron Kher in 'Devdas', and woe-ho-ho, out pops a senior politician (Raza Murad, in gigantic close-ups) canvassing support at the upcoming general elections. Is that a topical comment or just a bid to pepper in some politics? Go figure.

Bullets rent the air, the body count multiplying faster than it does in those Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo flicks. Alarmingly, violence takes over Bhansali’s designer show of unbridled passion. Moreover, dispensable vulgarity creeps in, with a near-rape scene and double entendres. “What’s your size?” quizzes Leela of Ram, eroding the intensity of their reunion. Ear, ear!

Yet these reservations amount to a molehill in a mountain of a movie: aesthetically mounted, faithful to the ethnic delights of its Gujarat backdrop (note a top shot of fiery red mirchis laid out to dry in the sun), conviction in the conventions of mainstream entertainment, and most of all, in drumming up palpable chemistry between the roguish Ram and the elegant, cocooned Leela. Opposites attract and how, during their encounters by moonlight, their elopement to a seedy lodge, only to be separated by the force of destiny. It happens.

Perhaps, the pair’s flight to the lodge and their argument over whether to marry formally or not, is the film’s most delicately treated sequence. Quite audaciously, Bhansali leaves their decision ambiguous. Consequently, no easy solutions are offered to subvert their mutual physical attraction. Clearly, whenever the twosome share screen-time, you’re engrossed, hoping that somehow or the other that they can walk towards a happy ending.

Suffice it to say, then, this Romeo and Juliet’s end could be comforting or disturbing, leaving you guessing right till the end. Script and dialogue-wise, co-writers Garima and Siddharth do an excellent job of blending in Gujarati patois. Vis-à-vis the plotting, the screenplay could have been tighter, besides avoiding guttersnipe lingo. Unquestionably superb technical support comes from Ravi Varman’s cinematography – the most dazzling in years – as well as the inticate sound design by Parikshit Lalvani and Kunal Mehta. Throughout, the costumes by Anju Modi and Maxima Basu, are a class apart. And the production design by Wasiq Khan is extraordinary.

On the downside, the songs composed by Bhansali fit the bill, but that’s it. They’re far too resonant of 'Devdas'. So, can the director continue to multi-task as a music director? Yes, but only if he evolves a distinctive stamp of his own. That he’s a master image-maker remains unchallenged, and also his gift for inveigling first-rate performances comes to the fore again.

Of the supporting ensemble, Supriya Pathak Kapoor is impressive, lording it over with her sharp tongue, effortlessly. In a brief but significant part, Richa Chadda, as a widow caught in the clans’ crossfire, exudes confidence and verve.

Over to Ranveer Singh. Usually over-the-top, he’s kept under control, displays muscle power to match up with the Khans, and isn’t bad at all during the dramatic moments. However, it’s Deepika Padukone whom the film belongs to. Looking drop dead gorgeous and going at her part with a wallop, she’s the prime asset of 'Ram-Leela'. Eminently worth a dekko.

Nazriya Nazim complains to Commissioner of Police

Chennai: Actor Nazriya Nazim approached the city police commissioner’s office on Tuesday to officially file a complaint against the director of the yet-to-be-released Dhanush movie, Nayyandi, in which she features.

The 19-year-old actor had raised an issue by complaining to the Nadigar Sangam against director Sargunam and producer Murugesan for using a body double in a song sequence, which involves skin show. She had alleged that the makers didn’t even inform her after she refused to shoot for the scene, which is against her contractual agreement.

Director Sargunam, in a release, denied the allegation and said that they shot the whole song with Nazriya.

”While editing the song, we felt that the inclusion of an intimate close-up scene would increase the impact of the song and I requested Nazriya, who was in Kerala at that time, to come down and act for this particular scene for which the actor responded by saying that she can’t come all the way from Kerala and asked me to shoot that particular scene by using a body double,” the release said, adding that the actor was creating a needless issue, probably for publicity.

The director’s statement also said he was ready to remove that intimate close-up shot from the trailer if Nazriya feels uncomfortable. “Is she ready to sit with the media and see the film and assert that she hasn’t acted in the Inikka Inikka song?” the release said.
